Kalahari Long Table, Claesson Koivisto Rune 2010

The Kalahari dining table is representative of a table in its most essential of forms. It is comprised of a top and legs with no other components. A softer, lighter and elegant iteration of this otherwise very brutal and basic table has been very successfully achieved by the designer, Claesson Koivisto Rune. This has been achieved primarily through skilful proportioning and careful application of curves to the overall design.

Despite its light appearance, the Kalahari table remains true to its sturdy roots. It is constructed from a solid, 40mm thick table top, with 100mm thick diameter solid legs at their widest point. An additional interesting feature is the round, end wood grain shape of the leg that is visible on the tabletop.

The Kalahari table ships flat as the legs are removable. The use of a robust bolt mechanism allows for tool-free assembly while adding to the rigidity of the table. The Kalahari series of tables are available in different shapes and sizes to suit different environments and uses. This includes an option to order custom-made sizes. The tables are expertly handmade from sustainable hardwoods by the craftsmen and women of Mabeo in Botswana.
