For the 2021 edition of Design Miami, one the most prominent collectible design events in the world; Fendi, one of the most prominent fashion houses in the world, requested Mabeo Studio to design a collection of limited-edition furniture as well as designing the space and exhibition for the event. The creative director of Fendi, Kim Jones, along with Silvia Venturini Fendi, Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Simon Paris along with supporting teams from Fendi and Kim Jones Studio, engaged in conversation with Mabeo Studio towards a process that would show respect and deep appreciation for collaborative craft relations, natural material and nature. The Mabeo team then began an extensive process of realizing a ten-piece furniture collection made by diverse groups of crafts people from across Botswana, interacting through varied craft processes, across vast distances and finding harmony between what has been separated by the commercial world, geographical locations and economic status. Over 4000 km were covered to engage wood artisans, basket weavers, metal artisans, potters, and painters, to create a momentary ecosystem of makers that could be the basis for future economies. Some pieces from collection are available on an ongoing basis through Casa Fendi.
