Mabeo is furniture and accessories brand from Botswana, Africa. The company was established in 1996 and after 10 years of making bespoke furniture for commercial projects locally, Mabeo launched its products internationally in 2006. The company has engaged the design world consistently since then, collaborating with some of the best designers on significant projects and developing an interesting line of products.

The aim of the brand is to make the work of African artisans available to the world in a considered way, through thoughtful collaboration with the best international designers. Good design, high quality,craftsmanship, use of sustainable materials, culture, people and community development are the main tenets of the brand.

Mabeo has been in collaboration with some of the most renowned international designers including Claesson Koivisto Rune, Garth Roberts, Luca Nichetto, Patty Johnson, Patricia Urquiola and Studio Noi; and has participated in highly regarded international design events such as Milan Design Week, Stockholm Design Week, London design festival and New York Design Week. Mabeo products have been honoured with awards, such as Best Craftsmanship and Best Furniture at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York and have received coverage in well respected international publications such as as Abitare, Interni, Elle, Wallpaper, New York Times, Fast Company, Casa De Abitare and more. Mabeo has also realized significant international projects including design hotels – Hotel Nobis in Stockholm, Skeppsholmen hotel in Stockholm and Andaz Hotel in New York, corporate headquarters –Blue Air in Stockholm, DeBeers in Gaborone Botswana and various international galleries and private residences.

The focus is to embody Mabeo’s ideals in the approach, the way of working and in the products made. This has resulted in a universal aesthetic language that communicates certain qualities - an essential simplicity of form, an idea of purity, the conscientious use and handling of natural materials, the dedication of the craftsmen and women, and the sensitivity of the collaborating designer with a reverence to the rich aesthetic heritage of Africa and its people.


Peter Mabeo is the founder of Mabeo in Botswana Africa. In 2006, following 10 years of making bespoke furniture for commercial customers in Botswana, he took initial steps towards creating a brand that would be the basis of realizing his aspirations of making interesting products in a meaningful way with a focus on quality, craftsmanship, design, sustainability, culture and people.

Under his direction Mabeo furniture has ongoing collaborations with some of the most renowned international designers; as well as participation in highly regarded international design events such as Design Weeks of, Milan, London, Stockholm and at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York; where they have been honored with awards, such as Best Craftsmanship and Best Furniture. Their products have received coverage in well-respected international publications including Elle Decor, Wallpaper, New York Times, Fast Company. Peter’s business leadership has also allowed Mabeo to successful complete significant international projects of: the 201 room Five Star Hotel Nobis in Stockholm, and the 485 m/sqr office and public areas of the De beers Headquarters in Gaborone Botswana. Each of these were key to the establishment of the company as an international consumer and contract furniture manufacturer.

Based on his approach and achievements, Peter Mabeo has been invited to speak at international events and conferences, both in the areas of design as well as on development. He is also an advocate of development of good design as an effective tool for economic development, cultural relevance and self-expression, in the context of the rapid urbanization taking place in Botswana and on the African continent as a whole. As a result, ongoing relationships have developed with like-minded individuals and organizations such as Botswana International Trade Centre, United States Trade Hub, University of Botswana, Swedish Trade Council, various NGO’s, environmental sustainability organizations and small cooperatives.

Above all, the core of all his activities is based on providing an effective and sustainable platform for thoughtful communication, between people of different geographic regions, economic position and social standing, cultures, aesthetic points of view in the form of created objects.
